Two days before the 2026 state election in Saxony-Anhalt, a video spread on X, Facebook and TikTok claiming to show election officials destroying AfD postal ballots. It reached more than 10,000 views before it was reported.

German fact-checkers compared the ballots and envelopes in the video with the official Saxony-Anhalt postal-voting documents. The design and numbering did not match: the documents were fake. According to Correctiv, high-reach accounts that shared the video belonged to the Storm-1516 network, linked to Russian military intelligence (GRU).

The lesson: before asking who is behind a shocking video, ask what exactly you are looking at. Are the documents real? Does the procedure match the rules? Who posted it first?

Think Before You Trust.
